As a boy of sluggish mind and lazy body, daydreaming is the sole impetus of my existence. Who's to judge me for this? Everyone has some dream in which they indulge whenever they unfetter their minds from the grasps of reality.
But why do people daydream? I believe that it is mostly for that nice feeling that blocks out the sad truths of my imperfections. It is also a source of inspiration: daydreaming provides the confidence that I need to achieve my goals. If I had not spent the summers of my childhood dreaming about the massive success I would achieve if I were to follow in my sister's footsteps and attend University Laboratory High School, then I would not be here writing this blog post. Instead, I would probably be playing a video game. My point falls short after this because it is likely that once I finish this post, I will immerse myself in a fantasy world where anonymous people with similar interests gather to fight each other with fancy 8-bit pixels. I might not have achieved massive success yet, but perhaps if I continue to trust my dreams, someday I will find myself in the midst of fame and glory.
The main reason why daydreaming was chosen as the core of this introductory post is so that I could inform the world of my aspirations. My claim to fame will be hard-fought, but one day, every soul will have been touched by my presence. I will have saved lives, suppressed demonic souls, and discovered new worlds. And as I stand at the pinnacle of a mound of a thousand demon's bones with my blood-stained cape flaring out behind me, I shall shout to the world, "Never fear, for David is here to protect you!"
What do you daydream about?
This was rather fascinating. You are a boy of many dreams. I hope we'll be able to learn more about your epic journey in the upcoming chapters. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI hear you're more of a villain, though, reminiscent of the dude in Aladdin.
Oh, and I daydream about my wonderful Kpop and Kdrama stars. As well as certain foods. All of my daydreams are delicious.
DeleteI was gonna write that! :)
DeleteI really like how you formatted this blog. Stories told by the mysterious David... And the description on your profile: defined by yellow, One Piece, and One Piece. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting post, I hope to see more of these "enlightening" stories!
Daydreaming is amazing! You've chosen a totally blog-worthy topic, and I love this as an introduction. And in response to your question, I daydream about hypnotists and time traveling.
ReplyDeleteOho, a peak into the enigmatic workings of David Gong, who I constantly bother in chemistry by the subtle technique of diffracting the glaring sunlight off the glossy covers of my textbook straight into his face.
ReplyDeleteWell maybe I can play the part of that villain who shoots giant laser thingies out of my mouth and tries to demolish your will to achieve your goal (an A in chemistry). But that's okay. Everyone daydreams, except my daydreams usually end up with me drooling on the desk and I fall asleep. Awk.
I like the voice you've created in this first post, David, and your topic is a worthy one. I would have liked to hear you expand a bit, especially on what your specific relationship to those 8-bit pixels is, and whether you see that as your possible road to fame and glory.
ReplyDeleteDaydreaming is important, and it serves a worthwhile function for our brain, as this article that my mom sent me recently attests. I also think that a certain amount of daydreaming is crucial part of the writing process.
I have played with you a couple times before. As the best jungler I have ever seen (which may not be much considering my ELO rating) you are indeed the savior of my lane!
ReplyDeletehahaha I love this David! You raise a very interesting question...I think you're right to say that we daydream in order to imagine perfect worlds where we do awesome things, and I also think temporarily escaping into worlds where we can do anything we want and have lots of superpowers is a nice break when lectures go on for too long.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with you that daydreaming about success and achievements is motivating sometimes...but I still prefer daydreaming myself onto a pile of demon bones :)
